Game booster is a completely free, frequently updated, game defragging and process closing program. So your computer is slowing down at start up? Or slowing down period? Download this: www.iobit.com/gamebooster.htmlYou'll see the difference in about a minute.

I got this also when my pc had 4 gigs of ram..(its a good program) Since i've upgraded my ram to a total of 8 gigs (the max i can have) im not sure if it would make much of a difference using it..maybe it would.

Just change the startup programs John? So only the essential processes are loaded. Thats what I did to my old shared computer. But nothing beats having your own personal comp (other then the fact you need to buy it yourself >_>)

Depends if its XP or Vista, Vista has other random processes it needs to run, but on my old XP it was just xfire and COMODO on startup xD

Bah, she doesn't log off of HER profile, in which she has 5 internet windows, in which the average number of tabs is 3....
Lol.
Not to meantion her 24 toolbars ad etc...
40% of my ram is in use at all times according to Task Manager. I have 4 gigs on a lappy with a nvidia 9800 with an extra 1gb video memory as well as a 320 gig harddrive. I saved up for this for 4 years,, not this model, but this type of thing. And then my old desky crashed, which my mom had been using, so when I got this, she put all her shit on here. -_-

Buy her like a cheap old computer then. For like $200 I'm sure you can get a computer that can just run IE and word and etc. Or better yet, make HER buy it.

Or..Get an external drive, and transfer all her shit over to that.
John, With windows boot up your computer, and don't open anything. When your computer is fully booted, I mean totally done booting, open your task manager (cntl-alt-del with mouse pointer on a open area on the desktop), and click processes. Look at all of your processes and tell me which ones are active, and then look at the cpu and what program(s) are using up the most cpu. (do not pay attention to the system Idle process-high cpu usage for that is normal, and do not be concerned about it.) Anyway, This will tell you what programs are eating up your memory. Let me know what the cpu amount is and the program along with the memory usage the program requires. Example: on average Firefox uses about 70,000 or less K You can stop memory hogging processes, if they are not a required process. You may also have a virus that is causing certain program(s) to use tons of memory. 40% ram usage is huge and out of control, and not normal if your computer has nothing open and is simply idling..
Also, there are some cool things you can do with the XP task manager..
When you play Halo, open the TM processes and find Halo on the list of running programs. Right click it, and you will see "set priority" It should be say it is set on normal..Choose high instead, and your computer will now give Halo the most attention, and more resources than any other program on the list. This will make Halo much more stable when you play and host, because your computer now is making Halo a priority over all the other programs. For me it's not a big difference, but even with the low number of processes I have running (29) and the huge amount of memory, I can still tell a difference slightly.

With just my processes, I have 72 processes.
After closing multiple others.
I don't know if CCleaner even works on my 64 bit.
---
By the way, Google Chrome only uses 25k-40k.
Firefox is heavy and overrated, Chrome fixed it's crashes and I fucking love it, my favorite browser.

72? WTF any of them using large amounts of ram constantly with computer at idle? I have 29 and when I use gamebooster it brings it down to 23.
and yeah Google Chrome rapes, Opera does too, but has bugs.
Sometimes I will go through a whole routine before playing Halo.
In order:: 1. Use ccleaner 2. Reset modem 3. Reboot computer 4. Close processes, all active programs, and/or use gambooster 5. Make Halo high priority in task manager 7. Start Halo
