Was it right or wrong for the U.S. to bomb Japan in WW2?
Discuss.

I don't think an atomic bomb was necessary, pearl harbor was horrible but America should have got a little lighter

We gave them the choice to surrender or else we'll use the atomic bomb. We were sure that we wouldn't have to use the atomic bomb, but Japan refused to surrender. So we dropped the atomic bomb. What did you want the U.S. do in that situation?

What did you want the U.S. do in that situation? Well the US warned japan of a future attack but didn't specifically say what the attack was gonna be. This was the only time nuclear weapons were used in warfare, and not many countries knew how deadly nuclear weapons were. The US just happened to be the 1st to try it out. Once we bombed japan, everybody got scurred of how deadly nuclear weapons were and agreed not to ever use nuclear weapons in warfare again. The japanese caught us off gaurd and bombed pearl harbor when the US didn't even know that japan was at war with us. Til this day japanese veterans still visit the pearl harbor memorial to send their apologies. I guess it goes to show that if japanese war veterans thought it was wrong to bomb japan, they would have never visited the memorial site at hawaii.

( i juss took us history last semester and got like a 92%) but anyways the us strictly stated if the soviet union or anyone else attacks any american troops or the allies then they would retaliate with nuclear weapons (atomic bomb). the american president at the time (forget which one it was too lazy to look up) only said this to scare the soviets from attacking east berlin while they were stationed there. pearl harbor got attacked before the us was even in WW2 that had nothin to do with why they attacked japan.. the us told the japanese to surrender or they would use nuclear weapons to protect themselves.. the japanese didnt surrender so the us bombed one city.. then the us stated against japan please surrender.. the japanese didnt surrender so they hit them with another.. then after the 2nd one they surrendered and japan was out of WW2.. then all they had to worry about was killing hitler and seizing germany.. this topic really is irrelevant because about 85% of the people who were even alive and had anything to do with WW2 are dead or extremely old.. rarely see a WW2 vet around anymore.. and it happened generations b4 all of us were born and we really dont know all of the behind the scenes stuff during the 40's so we really cant say if it was justified.. personally i think it was.. we were fighting a war for like 6 yrs and wanted to end it.. that seemed like the only way to end it was to bomb the stubborn japanese.... swag!

I don't think we should of bombed them. The Japanese had agreed to surrender, with the only condition being that America wouldn't harm their leader. America didn't want conditions, bombed them, and then after Japan said "ALRIGHT CONDITIONS ARE OFF" they still didn't harm Japan's leader.
I say no, we shouldn't of bombed them, they had already agreed to surrender. If Japan hadn't of agreed to surrender, then yes, to save Americans, yes.
